Introducing...Historicalder: a trip through time!
Please take a look at the Historicalder wiki.
Last year, a group of year 8 students took part in a History challenge to create a wiki (a collection of webpages which can be edited by all users). Working in teams, the students produced some outstanding web pages on topics as diverse as Ancient Egypt and 1970s culture. Furthermore, because wikis are collaborative projects, the students had the opportunity to develop and demonstrate some impressive teamwork skills, in addition to their research and ICT expertise! In time, it is hoped that the History wiki (wittily named Historicalder) will be a second-nature starting point for Calder High students when researching history on the web.
The History Department would love to hear from any student who would like to add a page or two to the wiki - it could be about the history of absolutely anything! See Miss Newman in Humanities if you'd like to get involved.

Year 8 Camp

Mixed fortunes for the campers again this year - one dry week and one very wet one! All the 8Y students and staff coped admirably during the wet week and still managed to have a great time.
A drier time for the 8X group:

In the Art sessions, students created Peace Flags.
The Expressive Arts theme was 'Slavery' and the Dance and Drama classes worked on routines and performances. |

Annual Spring Clean with Year 8
Year 8 students worked in different areas of the community during their PSCHE lessons last week helping to tidy up local 'grot' spots. This is an annual event done in conjunction with Hebden Royd Town Council. This year, with the help of Jason Boom, the students also helped with the development of the Midgley Road turning circle project. This area has been cleared of rubbish and is being re-planted to help improve the habitat for local wildlife.
