Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

Year 7 students have their first experience of our curriculum in the Summer Term of Year 6 when they spend a day living life as a Calder High student. Our curriculum design provides rigour and flexibility through a variety of qualifications and pathways meaning all our students are engaged in their learning and offered enrichment across their subjects. Our faculties are staffed by subject specialists who are qualified to teach all ages and levels of attainment from Year 7 to Year 13, ensuring all students have high quality learning experiences as they progress through the school. In Year 7, students have lessons in their Form group for all subjects apart from English, Mathematics and Science, where students are taught in sets composed according to the student’s current attainment. At Calder High School, we pride ourselves on the breadth of our provision at Key Stage 4. Every student has a core provision of English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Dual or Triple Award Science, Core PE and Learning for Life. Alongside this, students choose 4 optional subjects from an extensive list of courses. Our close links with Calderdale College provide the opportunity for some of our students to take a more vocational route through Years 10 and 11 alongside the Calder core.
