Athletics record broken
Calder High School entered a Year 9 team in the Calderdale Athletics Championship. The girls' team managed to finish in fourth place out of 12 schools for the overall event. There were some excellent individual performances with Rebecca Sullivan smashing the Calderdale high jump record and following this up with first place in the 800m. Rebecca trains at Halifax Harriers and is a very talented athlete; she also represents the school in a number of sports.

Competition Success for Years 7 and 8
Selected Years 7and 8 athletes represented the school in the Hipperholme & Lightcliffe Sportshall Athletics Competition on Friday 21 November. We came second and go through to a further Calderdale secondary schools competition in December.

Outstanding performances from two Year 7 students, Rhona Adams who won all her three races and Dan Vile who did likewise. Max Wharton was awesome and Joss Swindells added to the teams quality performance on the day. JSLA students were also a great help in organising and managing the team.

Look out for further news in December!

Athletics Team

Year 7 and 8 students were in fantastic form last week when they competed against seven secondary schools in the annual Hipperholme & Lightcliffe Sports Hall Athletics Competition at Park Lane.

Supported and organised on the day by JSLA student Ashley Wickings the whole team performance was superb! Fantastic individual performances came from Year 7 students Ewan Atkinson, Max Wharton and Joss Swindells which ensured Calder High of a well deserved 2nd place; Crossley Heath School once again taking first place.

Girls' relay team Boys' Relay team

Ewan and Max were consistent in winning primary cross country events. They both attend Mr Webb's cross country club and are keen fell runners with the Calder Valley Fell Running Club.

The Year 7 & 8 girls' team also produced outstanding performances with nail-biting finishes in the relays. Well done folks!

Athletics championshipsYear 9 boys and girls represented the school in the Calderdale Secondary Schools XC Championships. The course was pretty demanding with several uphill climbs proving quite challenging for some of our competitors, however they all completed the course. Congratulations go to Rebecca Y9 who came 4th and Joseph Y9 who came 6th.

Younger students competing against stronger year 9 boys ran exceptionally well with Max Y8 11th, Dan Y7 came 19th and Edan Y7 came 25th. Very well done lads, sheer determination and grit got them through!

Rebecca, Joseph and Max have beed selected to represent Calderdale in the prestigous West Yorkshire, Cross Country Championship at Leeds Grammar School on Saturday 7 February 2009.

Very well done everyone!
