Admissions to Calder VI
Calder High Sixth Form is available to all Calder High School year 11 students and students from external schools who wish to enrol providing that an appropriate viable course is available and that the students meet the requirements for entry to post 16 courses. We offer A Level and level 3 BTEC courses. Many students choose to combine A Level and BTEC courses, many follow the pure A Level route and a handful follow a BTEC pathway. UCAS research shows that the best post 16 providers offer 'a mixed curriculum' of A Level and BTEC courses and we know that we fall in to this category.
Admission to year 13 courses is for students who make expected progress in their year 12 courses. We provide much support to each and every student in our care and expect that the vast majority of students can progress to year 13.
Applications to Calder High Sixth Form can be made by completing a Post 16 application form, obtainable from school or via the online prospectus link. Please check the entry requirements document to ensure that you meet all necessary criteria for your course options.
What to do when making an application to Calder High Sixth Form:
Students from Calder High school will be offered a vast array of advice, information and guidance opportunities during their year 11 year. This begins introduction to post 16 assemblies during the autumn term as well as the annual Sixth Form open evening. At this event, there will be presentations by the Headteacher, Director of Sixth Form and Sixth Form students in the main school theatre. The Sixth Form building is open and ready for viewing from 6pm on open evening and we encourage all parents and students to come and take a look at the fantastic subject displays on show.
Subject teachers and student ambassadors are on hand to answer any of your questions about course content, examination schedules and entry requirements. The Apprentice Finder and C & K Careers, amongst others, will be available for conversations on the evening should you wish to investigate post 16 and post 18 options further.
Calder High Sixth Form is moving from strength to strength and our annual Open Evening is our opportunity to tell you about the fantastic future that you could have, if you were to join us. To give you a taste of new recent developments - we have a brand new pastoral programme based on a bestselling KS5 research programme, an exciting array of enrichment activities led by internal and external agencies, a brand new work experience week for all Year 12 students (organised by us to avoid causing you extra stress) and free trips to Russell Group and local universities for all students in the summer term.
