Bag Pack raises funds for Overseas Project

On Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th December 2016, a group of Year 13 students who will be volunteering as part of the 2017 Overseas Project with Calder High School Sixth Form, took part in a bag pack at the Hebden Bridge Co-op.

The staff and students involved in the project spent from 10am to 6pm on both days offering a bag packing service to Co-op customers and were overwhelmed with the total amount of £1075 raised over the two days.  Project Leader, Emma Hartley said “we are absolutely over the moon with the amount we have raised. The customers of the Hebden Bridge Co-op were very supportive of our project and we all really enjoyed our time packing bags and chatting to the customers. The atmosphere was lovely and festive and some of the group even took up to a bit of carol singing. We would like to publicly thank all the customers who supported us, along with the staff of the Co-op for making us feel so welcome.”

The bag pack was organised through the Hebden Bridge Co-op’s Community Pioneer, Emily Glover. The Calder VI Overseas Project sends students to a developing country to volunteer for two weeks over the summer in alliance with Projects Abroad (www.projects-abroad.co.uk). Students and staff are responsible for fundraising the total cost of the project, around £2,000 per volunteer. The projects are challenging and life-enhancing both for the student volunteers and the communities being supported.
