Issy Wharton Year 7...Wow, what a performance!

Issy with her medal
Last Sunday Year 7 student Issy Wharton, previously from Riverside Junior School and member of Calder Valley Fell Running Club (CVFRC), entered her final race for the 2008-9 fell running season. This was to be a particularly important event as Issy needed to secure a place in the top three to take the bronze medal. Not an easy task with competition from far and wide. Issy is a very determined, gritty individual who took on the challenge and succeeded, finishing in 3rd place. Previous race results were added to the final scores which means Issy is now the proud owner of the U12 Bronze Medal in the FRA English Junior Fell Running Championships ranking 3rd in the whole of the country!

Issy trains weekly with the CVFRC and has taken part this year in a series of six fell races all over the country; the Lake District, here in Calderdale, Cheshire, Ambleside, Lancashire and North Yorkshire. Courses are challenging covering a maximum permitted distance of two miles and several hundred feet of ascent! Being the only girl in her age group to do all six races Issy clocked up her best four results a 2nd and three 3rd place positions as well as taking silver in the Yorkshire Championships. Several of our students train and race on a regular basis with the Max Wharton took silver in the U14 Yorkshire Championships and Edan Whitelaw took Bronze in U12 boys.
