About Calder High School
Calder High School was opened in January 1950 and takes pride of place as Yorkshire’s first comprehensive school. We hold accreditation for: Artsmark Gold; School Network; Safemark; European Computer Driving Licence; Alliance for Lifelong Learning.
The school is situated at the heart of Pennine Yorkshire, in the village of Mytholmroyd, approximately six miles west of Halifax, and serves the Calder Valley community, stretching from Luddendenfoot, through Mytholmroyd, to the town of Hebden Bridge and the borders of Todmorden. Many of our students travel to the school from the outskirts of Halifax. Whilst situated in a picturesque area, the school is minutes from the trans-pennine railway link and within easy reach of Leeds and Manchester.
The school roll is currently 1312, with 83 teaching members of staff and 83 associate staff. Our Sixth Form of 183 students is situated in a separate state-of-the-art building and provides a wide ranging post-16 provision attracting a large number of students from outside our natural catchment area. Very few students join or leave the school at times other than in Year 7 and the sixth form.
We support our students to be confident and responsible young people who are highly articulate and creative, and their originality and flair are things we cherish. Calder High is a vibrant, friendly and successful school and it is our aim to be recognised as a genuinely outstanding comprehensive.
We seek to recruit people who share our inclusive values, who are passionate about working with our talented and creative young people, and who bring a sense of enjoyment and fun to our learning community.
